Hi there! My name is David Goguen and I’m a computer engineer from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. TechOpt is my blog where I’ll be sharing tech tips & tricks I pick up on throughout my career, as well as through tinkering.
You can expect posts related to programming, servers, Linux, Windows, macOS & more.
I also play around with some electronic music production in my spare time, so you can expect some posts to be geared towards that, too.
In addition to this blog, I’ve also recently rebooted my YouTube channel! You can find additional and exclusive content there.
FAQ
What does TechOpt stand for?
There really isn’t an exact meaning behind the name TechOpt; when I thought of the name, I was thinking it could mean various things: tech optimization, tech operations, tech options, or even tech opinions today.
All these variations can describe this blog, so I think it’s best to leave the meaning behind the name up in the air!
What are your credentials?
I graduated with a BASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2020. I’ve also been tinkering with computers and programming extensively since about 10 years old.
What kind of system do you use as a daily driver?
I have an i7-7700k with 32 GB of RAM running openSUSE Tumbleweed for my desktop.
I also have a 2018 MacBook Pro with an 8th gen i7 and 16 GB or RAM for my laptop. This is due for an upgrade soon.
Finally, for my music and entertainment PC, I have an i9-9900k with 16 GB of RAM currently running Windows 11. It was originally a Hackintosh build, but I got tired of maintaining it.
What programming languages do you know?
TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, Java, Python, C++ and C are the languages I feel most comfortable with. I’ve also played around with Rust and scripting with sh and bash a bit.
What is this blog made with?
I simply use a custom-hosted WordPress for this blog, because I wanted this to be a place where I can quickly share tech tips & tricks along with other information.
What music software do you use?
I use Reason by Reason Studios as my main DAW. I’ve been using Reason since about 14 years old.
I also really like REAPER for audio processing.
I’ve used Logic Pro, FL Studio and Ableton, as well, but keep going back to Reason.
